Literature Text

I gently lay her on my lap.

She is purring,
not with contentment but with pain
from the cancer that has ravaged her body.

I lovingly brush her dulled fur,
more for my own comfort than for hers.

I look into her pale green eyes
and remember how vibrantly radiant they once were.

How do you say goodbye?

She has been the one constant in my husbands life
for over eighteen years.
A void will be left that even I can't fill.

She is ready,
yet we cling to the thought of just one more day
while dread of life without her fills our souls with
sorrow.

Tomorrow....

she will be put to rest.

Tomorrow....
My husbands cat and friend for over 18 yrs is going to be put to sleep tomorrow. For those of you that don't know, she has cancer. She had surgery a couple of weeks ago, but they couldnt get it all and she hasnt been doing well ever since. The cancer is still growing and its in her mouth and jaw. She has a hard time drinking and eating and you can tell she is in pain. We have agreed that this is for the best and cant watch her suffer any longer.
